Wow, I must have missed the early stages of this new phase of group buying. Companies like Groupon http://www.groupon.com/ are taking the web by storm. I remember back in 1998 there were a ton of Group Buying sites. One of the founders of the start-up I was at was buying 100 rakes at a time for $1 ea, and all kinds of crazy items. The one offer I jumped in on back then was a pre-paid $100 Gas Card for $20. They're were a ton of great deals, at what seemed to be unsustainable prices.
Now, like some other failed business' that had interesting business models, the sector is raging back. I'm excited about the future of this vertical, and certainly see a lot of potential in the social media space. Here at BuzzLogic, we're beginning to experiment with methods to help our e-commerce advertisers draw additional viral value from social media advertising.
