Wow, I just found Cornucopia running a Google Ad Words campaign against Sara Lee for "Green washing". Here the link to the full post by Cornucopia Institute slamming "big business" in their efforts to appeal to people in the green movement http://www.cornucopia.org/2010/02/corporate-baking-giant-sara-lee-hijacks-organics/?gclid=CIHL_eXQiaMCFd1_5QodOQx7KA
I think this is kind of a sad moment. I do passively support the green, organic, and sustainable movement, and find situations like this difficult. One one hand, it's great for a major food company like Sara Lee to identify and address the needs and market demand for Organic and Sustainable products. On the other hand, I do see Cornucopia's point that Sara Lee didn't take a full step to make this fully represent the intentions of the movement.
Hopefully Sara Lee and Cornucopia will work together to better identify practices for Green, Organic, Sustainability that mesh well with "big business", to make it easier and more cost efficient for these corporations, and hence make "Green Living" more access able to people with less money in their pockets. I always love the hypocrisy of so many of the Green Beans flying private jets to Green "meet ups", and then hop into gas guzzling SUV's on their way to go hug a tree.
Do we all win on this one, or do we all lose?
