Ok, this has to be one of the all time best TV Commercials... Kia knocked it out of the park with this series, and I love the iconic hamsters. Outside of some real genius creative like Kia's TV ads have some serious issues.
Foremost, TV content across the board has really gone downhill. Reality Shows better known as Unscripted shows have taken place of well written stories and series. I have to say that I can did watch the full season 1 of Jersey Shore, but seriously where is the content?
Like many in our profession, Mad Men has become a must watch series, and can't seem to get enough of the show. I do like what they're doing with the TV Commercials, and have long pondered why shows don't take advantage of their storyline to integrate the products. I'm not talking about product placement, and that is a great strategy. What I'm suggesting is bring the actors and storyline into the ad, not vise verse. Many of the TV Commercials surrounding Mad Men's show, are using a "like or similar storyline setting with similar looking / acting actors" in the commercials. This is brilliant, and would love to see the industry take this method one step further. Essentially shoot small 1-2 min commercials with the actors, clearly marking this as a paid media experience, and have them "pimp" the products. It would at least be novel, and for certain shows - some reason Seinfeld is what's playing in my mind... Although off the air, I think we'd all love to see the actors pitch some of our favorite brands in a little vignette format.
Good work Kia... One of the few stand out commercials this year!!
